Herne Bay midfielder Danny Walder has turned down an approach from a rival Ryman League Division 1 South club to stay at Winch’s Field.

Walder, who started his career at Gillingham, went on to play for Dover and Tonbridge before joining Bay in the summer.

He had a trial at Maidstone after leaving Tonbridge and has continued to attract attention but isn’t going anywhere for now.

Bay manager Sam Denly said: “We had an approach for Danny – a club came in for him but he’s staying. It was a club in the same league as us but I was always confident he would stay.

“He’s an important player for us, although by his own admission he’s had a few quiet games lately. He’s been struggling with his back but when he’s firing, he’s an excellent player.”

Walder was one player to benefit from the postponement of Saturday’s fixture at Walton Casuals. A waterlogged pitch on the banks of the Thames meant Bay didn’t make the journey, allowing Walder’s back and Stuart King’s hamstring more time to heal.

The pair are both available for selection this weekend, when Redhill are the visitors to Winch’s Field.
