Fire at family home in Stonerock Close, Sturry near Canterbury

A woman in her 40s has been treated for burns after a gas cyclinder caught fire at a family home near Canterbury.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a property in Stonerock Close, Sturry at about 11.30am today.

The initial call reported a propane gas cylinder was alight in a garage. The fire then spread to the garage itself.

On arrival, fire crews found everyone inside the property had evacuated, but a woman in her 40s needed oxygen therapy for smoke inhalation and first aid treatment to minor burns on her arm.

Firefighters used water jets and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

A Red Cross volunteer team also attended, to offer emotional and welfare support to the family.
