Woman punched in motiveless attack

POLICE in Canterbury have appealed for information after a 62-year-old woman was punched in the face in a motiveless attack in the city centre.

The victim was walking in St Peter's Street with two friends after visiting the theatre shortly before 10.30pm last Wednesday when the incident happened.

A man walking in the opposite direction barged into the group and deliberately punched the woman, causing severe bruising around her eye.

The offender is said to be aged in his mid-40s and had greasy hair. He was wearing a grey jacket and carrying a rucksack over his shoulder with bedding under his arm.
