Violent protests against former Simon Langton pupil Milo Yiannopoulos' speech at Californian school

Violent protests broke out at a Californian school last night over plans for conservative Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos to give a speech.

Police were forced to lock down buildings after objectors reportedly started fires on the UC Berkeley campus, let of fireworks and smashed store front windows.

It comes just weeks after Simon Langton Boys' Grammar School in Canterbury cancelled a talk by their controversial ex-pupil after the Department for Education’s counter extremism unit stepped into the furore.

The 32-year-old, who was expelled from the Langton, has in the past equated feminism with cancer and told women who felt threatened by online harassment that they should simply log their computers off.

He is also a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump.

Now the president has tweeted that funding should be withdrawn from the university if it "does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people".

The speech at UC Berkeley, which was cancelled, would have been his last on his anti-political correctness Dangerous F****t Tour.

Milo wrote on his Facebook page: "I have been evacuated from the UC Berkeleycampus after violent left-wing protestors tore down barricades, lit fires, threw rocks and Roman candles at the windows and breached the ground floor of the building.

"My team and I are safe. But the event has been cancelled. I'll let you know more when the facts become clear.

"One thing we do know for sure: the Left is absolutely terrified of free speech and will do literally anything to shut it down."

Police in Berkeley were forced to bring in additional resources to cope with the 'major protest attacks'.

It is understood they used non-lethal bullets and tear gas to control the crowds.

Police gave the all clear on campus at 10.55pm and tweeted that it would be business as usual at the school today.
