Two men arrested as police issue warning after suspected drugs death in Herne Bay

Two men have been arrested after a man found unconscious at a house in Herne Bay died in hospital.

The 44-year-old was discovered on Saturday morning - the day after taking a strong prescription painkiller used for treating chronic pain.

He was rushed to the Kent and Canterbury hospital but died later that day.

Two men from Herne Bay, aged 37 and 35, were arrested four days later on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug and bailed until May 11.

Detectives believe the dead man may have been given a 100mg tablet of morphine sulphate by an “associate”.

Det Sgt Neil Martin said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“As a precaution we are warning people not to take any pills they are offered, as all drugs – whether legal or not – can cause potential harm.”

The morphine sulphate tablets - also known as MST 100 - are small and grey and have the initials NAPP on one side and 100mg on the other.

Anyone who is offered a tablet matching this description is advised not to take it.

If you have been offered a tablet or have information about drug dealers call Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
