Theatre jobs to go

More than 60 full and part-time staff at the Marlowe Theatre will lose their jobs if the multimillion-pound redevelopment goes ahead.

City council head of culture Janice McGuinness said: “Councillors will make a final decision on the closure of the theatre on March 19, but because of the importance of consulting with staff and because work will start very shortly afterwards should the go-ahead be given, decisions about redundancies needed to be made in advance.”

Twelve full-time staff and 51 part-time staff will be made redundant from March 22.
