A GIRL of 14 was allegedly raped by one teenager and sexually attacked by another in a public park.

The incident is alleged to have happened while it was still light at about 8pm last Saturday in Greyfriars Gardens, Canterbury, off Black Griffin Lane.

The schoolgirl was taken to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. Police closed the park until 5pm on Sunday while forensics officers carried out a search.

* James Roberts, 18, of Whitstable Road, Canterbury, has been charged with rape and sexual activity with a girl under 16 years of age.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with sexual activity with a girl under 16 years of age.

Both have appeared before city magistrates in the city remanded in custody. They are due to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, July 24.
