A Canterbury school has called off a science trip to London following Saturday's terror attacks in the capital.

St Anselm's Catholic School, in Old Dover Road, alerted parents this morning to say the upcoming visit will not take place, as it wouldn't be "sensible" to have 380 children dispersed over a large area.

Pupils from Year 7 and 8 were due to visit various locations, including the London Aquarium and the Florence Nightingale Museum.

The two museums are situated in the area between Westminster Bridge and London Bridge.

The school hopes to run the trip again and will now be working with Canterbury Christ Church University and the University of Kent to arrange a day of activities for pupils at the school site.

The email to parents read: "It is with a heavy heart that the school and the Science Department have decided to cancel the upcoming trip to London.

"The trip involved a visit to the London Aquarium and the Florence Nightingale Museum. Our whole trip, which would consist of approximately 380 students and 20 staff spread out across various venues and locations, was going take place in the area between Westminster Bridge and London Bridge.

"Given the recent terrorist attacks at these two locations, and the fact that we would have so many children dispersed over such a large area, we have decided that it is not sensible to run the trip at this time.

"We hope that this is a trip that we will be able to run in the future, at which point we hope that your child will attend."

The finance department will process all refunds of payments for the trip.
