Smash near Sturry level crossing sparks traffic warnings for drivers in Canterbury

Drivers were warned to avoid Sturry level crossing after a man ploughed his car into a lamppost.

Island Road was shut off by police while the wreckage of the Nissan Micra was recovered and reopened within two hours.

The driver of the car, a man in his 60s, is thought to have been unhurt in the crash shortly before 2.30pm and declined hospital treatment.

No other cars were involved in the accident.
