University of Kent in Canterbury warned about rise in mumps cases

Staff and students at a university have been warned about a rise in mumps cases.

The University of Kent in Canterbury has been told by Public Health England about an increase in suspected cases of mumps at the campus.

Mumps is a contagious viral infection, the symptoms of which usually resolve within one or two weeks - but there can be complications.

Students have been told to contact their GP if they think they have mumps or would like to enquire about being vaccinated.

The University Medical Centre can be contacted by phone on 01227 469333, during out-of-hours people can contact NHS 111 and the University Nursing Service on 01227 823503 ext 3503.
