Prince Andrew paid an official visit to Whitstable manufacturer Amphenol Ltd on Wednesday.

The Duke of York landed by helicopter nearby before being taken on a tour of the company’s Thanet Way facility by managing director Andy Bragg.

On the factory floor, he met some of the 300 employees who help supply electrical connectors and interconnectors for military applications, many of which are used by troops on the front line.

The company have operated from their current location since 1987 and the vast majority of their employees live in the area.

Around 600 different items are manufactured, assembled and distributed on site every month.

The visit coincided with Prince Andrew's role as international representative for international trade and investment. He was accompanied by The Vice Lord Lieutenant for Kent, The Viscount De L’Isle and Canterbury and Whitstable MP Julian Brazier. Lord Mayor Cllr Harry Cragg was also present to officially welcome him to the district.

Andy Bragg said: "We were very pleased and proud to welcome His Royal Highness and the opportunity it gave us to display the achievements of our business and the talents of our people."
