Police release man, 22, on bail after raids in Canterbury and Herne Bay

A man has been released on bail after being arrested in connection with four raids in Canterbury and Herne Bay.

The 22-year-old, who is from the Canterbury area, was arrested by police after staff at two bookmakers and post offices were threatened with a knife.

The first robbery at Coral in Wincheap was reported just before 5pm on Thursday.

Less than a day later at 10.30am on Friday, a man threatened a member of staff with a knife at a post office in Shalmsford Street, Chartham, before escaping with money from the till.

Just hours later at 2pm, a man stole cash from the Coral bookmakers in Sea Street, Herne Bay after threatening staff.

The fourth robbery was reported at just before 9pm on the same day at a convenience store in Godfrey Gardens, Chartham.

It was alleged that a man entered the shop and threatened a member of staff with a knife before he was disturbed and left empty-handed.

Detective Chief Inspector Luke Dodson said: "Witnesses have told us that the offender had a ginger beard and was wearing a black motorcycle helmet and a puffer jacket.

"I urge people to cast their minds back to the days in question. Did you see a man matching that description, either wearing or carrying the crash helmet, at any of the locations, or travelling between them?

"Any information, however small, could help our investigation."

The man has been bailed until Friday, June 30.
