The documents were taken between 6pm on December 20 and 8am the following day.

Days later, in the early hours of December 23, a bank card was stolen from a car parked in Whitehall Road.

Damage was also caused to cars parked in Parham Road and Waters Edge overnight between December 20 and 21.

The string of incidents has prompted police to warn drivers to remove personal belongings from cars.

Sgt Colette Todd of Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: "Anything from loose change, medication or even your bags of shopping can be tempting to criminals.

"Always take time to lock your car and check it before leaving it unattended, even if it is for a moment.

"If you see anyone acting suspiciously, report it to police on 101, or 999 if a crime is in progress."
