Muslim threats woman in court

A FRENCH woman yelled at a Muslim family and spat in the face of a shopworker.

Canterbury magistrates heard that Toumana Ben Yarou, who is herself Muslim, launched the tirade against the family of Lamise Sengab when they stopped to watch a busker in the Longmarket, Canterbury, on June 30.

Ben Yarou, 46, spotted the family and shouted: “Muslim, get out of here!”

She moved closer to the family and said: “You Muslims get out of here. We don’t need any Muslims.”

Jim Harvey, prosecuting, told the court that the family were frightened by Ben Yarou’s behaviour.

He said that the incident involving the shopworker happened on July 3.

Kayleigh Brion was working at the Tesco Metro in the Whitefriars when she became aware of Ben Yarou shouting in the store.

“She was upsetting other shoppers and was asked to leave,” Mr Harvey said.

“She was leaving the shop, but then stopped suddenly and spat directly into Miss Brion’s face.”

Ben Yarou, of Whitstable Road, Canterbury, admitted common assault and religiously aggravated threatening behaviour.

She was ordered to pay compensation of £100 to Mrs Sengab and £100 to Miss Brion. She was also given an 18-month conditional discharge with £60 court costs.
