Man arrested after ‘gang of seven’ set upon victim in Canterbury street attack

Police have arrested a man after a seven-strong gang reportedly attacked their victim in the street.

Officers released CCTV stills after the man was seriously injured while out with two friends in St George’s Street, Canterbury.

The group are said to have approached the man in his 20s before punching and kicking him to the ground near the junction with Whitefriars Street.

He managed to leave the area and report the attack to police at about 5am on Sunday, December 10.

The victim suffered head injuries that required hospital treatment in the Canterbury attack.

A police spokesman said: “Yesterday, a 29-year-old man from Sittingbourne was arrested on suspicion of assault.

“He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.”

Officers would like to identify and speak to the two men pictured as they may have information which could assist the investigation.
