The man who heckled re-elected MP Julian Brazier on Friday morning is Green Party member Jonathan Elliott (pictured left).

Mr Elliott, 44, spoke this week to explain his actions and admitted having no regrets.

Jonathan, from Sydney Street, Whitstable was invited along to the count by Green Party candidate Geoff Meaden and was one of a handful of representatives present at the Westgate Hall on behalf of the party.

He said: “Geoff was unaware of what I was going to do, that I would lose my temper like I did at the result and get angry.

“I wanted to show not everyone in Canterbury and Whitstable agrees with the Tory position. Julian Brazier is not representative of this constituency. He lives in a posh house out in the country, whereas all the other candidates live in either Canterbury or Whitstable.

“Earlier in the evening, I tried to ask Mr Brazier where he had got his campaign money from, had he had it donated to him by Lord Ashcroft or a rich agent?

“He wouldn’t answer that."

At the result, Mr Elliott attempted to shout down Mr Brazier’s winning speech, before he was escorted from the main hall into the atrium with the help of two of Mr Brazier's sons (pictured above).

He was not arrested or cautioned, but taken home by officers when he refused to leave from outside.

He added: “I don’t regret acting in the way I did and in fact I’m proud of myself. I was hoping some other people would turn up and show their disagreement about what’s going on with our political system.”
