The man found dead in the river Stour in Canterbury last week has been named as 56-year-old Karl Harvey.

His body was pulled from the water near the weir opposite the Millers Arms in St Radigunds last Monday by a specialist water rescue unit from Kent Fire Service.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and an inquest into his death was opened on Tuesday and adjourned pending further inquiries.

Mr Harvey was a gardener who lived at Clevenlodge, Sarre Court, Sarre, near Birchington where neighbours said he was a quiet and pleasant man.
