Robbie Murray facing 19 charges following police chase from Worth, near Deal, to Sturry, Canterbury

A man is facing 19 charges - including allegedly strangling a woman, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm and dangerous driving - after a police chase which ended in Canterbury.

Robbie Murray, 22, of no fixed address is due before Folkestone magistrates today when he is expected to be remanded in custody.

The multiple charges come after a car failed to stop when requested by police in Worth near Sandwich.

A pursuit through several villages ensued, involving a police helicopter, which ended in Field Avenue, Sturry.

Following enquiries by East Kent's Vulnerability Investigation Team, Murray has now been charged with four counts of assault and one count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, relating to assaults on a man and a woman known to the defendant, in December.

He is also accused of intentional strangulation and stalking relating to incidents against a woman known to the defendant and three counts of criminal damage in the Canterbury area, also in December.

Murray is also charged with dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving while disqualified, failing to stop, failing to provide a breath sample and failing to provide a blood sample on Monday

He is additionally charged with two offences of handling stolen goods, relating to a motorbike stolen in Canterbury on Tuesday, December 6, and a car stolen in Canterbury between Thursday, December 29, and Monday, January 2, and one offence of possession of cannabis.
