Man charged over 1988 Canterbury rape

A 57-year-old man was remanded in custody by Canterbury magistrates today (Thursday) charged with raping a woman in the city 22 years ago.

James Robertson, of Rishton, Lancashire, is also accused of indecent assault, unlawful imprisonment and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

All the charges relate to an incident in Canterbury on August 20, 1988.

Robertson indicated he would be pleading not guilty to the charges and the case was adjourned to Canterbury Crown Court on March 22.
