A2 closed after a serious accident

The coast-bound A2 has reopened, several hours after a serious crash.

The seven-mile stretch of road between junction 7 of the M2 for Brenley Corner and the A2050 for Harbledown near Canterbury was shut until around 8am.

The crash happened near the BP garage just after 2am.

No details have been released about the extent of any injuries or how many vehicles were involved.

Investigation work had been completed by 7.15am, but it took another hour for debris to be cleared and vehicles to be recovered.

Rush hour drivers heading towards Canterbury and Dover faced long queues and diversions via the M20, A20, and villages surrounding the city.

The closure had a knock-on effect on London-bound traffic on the A2 and the A299 Thanet Way heading towards Brenley Corner.
