MICHAEL Jackson isn’t the only one who can get on with his life now a Californian court has declared him innocent.

So can Canterbury mum-of-three Lidi Gyampoh, who’s own life was put on hold throughout his trial on child abuse charges.

The 25-year-old scrimped and saved to fly out to Santa Maria four times during the four-month proceedings and has suffered with her idol throughout the ordeal.

As Mr Jackson was driven to the courthouse for the verdicts, Lidi was called into the Canterbury kmfm radio studio to capture her live reaction to the breaking news.

She said: "First my friend called from Santa Maria and told me they had reached a verdict. I had to grip the sideboard, my legs were weak. My heart was jumping and my mouth was dry.

"As the jury started returning the verdict, the words just kept going round in my mind, 'not guilty', but I was just hoping for a clear triumph.

"The sense of relief was amazing. This is a clear vindication all the way. I always had total belief in his innocence."

Lidi has idolised the singer since she was a child and has met him several times during the course of the trial as well as during his previous visits to the country.

With a new home to redecorate on the Querns Road estate in the city as well as children Nana Adjoa, four, Ashanti, 23 months, and Prince Kwame, 11 months, to care for, Lidi decided to stay at home for the verdict rather than fly out as she had originally planned.

"If it had gone the other way I would have preferred to be out there, but as it was I’m glad I was here. He told me that he’s coming to England soon to see the British fans, so I’ll look forward to that."

Now she wants the media to leave Mr Jackson alone and respect the jury’s verdict.

"I think everyone should give him a big apology. He’s had to fight his way to justice for two years, and it’s not been easy. The jury has reached the right decision and everyone has got to abide by it," she said.
