DONNING a fancy dress outfit or raising the most sponsorship could earn a prize for brave KentOnline readers taking part in a challenging charity abseil.

Fifty people are needed to take part in an abseil off seven storey Fisher Tower in the centre of Canterbury's Christ Church University campus on Saturday, July 21.

To take part, participants must raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship. Proceeds from the event will be divided between the Pilgrims Hospices, which will receive 70 per cent of the funds raised, and the children's road safety charity Kent Walking Bus Project, which will receive 30 per cent of sponsorship raised.

Event sponsor Snappy Snaps, based in Rose Lane, Canterbury, has agreed to donate two prizes to support the event. One will reward the participant that raises the most for charity and the second will go to the abseiler with the best fancy dress outfit.

At previous Kent Charity Challenge events promoted by the Walking Bus Project some participants have come dressed as superheroes to add to the fun. Outfits have included Superman, Batman and Robin and Wolverine. But children’s characters such as Pingu have also featured amongst the outfits. Now for the first time a prize will be awarded for the best outfit.

A £29.98 package for the winner will allow them to select two of the following personalized gifts: mug, mouse mat, jigsaw or T-shirt. These can be personalized with anything from a photo of family or friends to a holiday photo or children’s illustration.

The top fund-raiser will be rewarded with an A3 canvas that will be stretched, mounted and heat sealed. This would enable family pictures, photos of holiday sunsets or your own works of art to be presented in a stunning format. This prize is valued at £69.99.

The winners be decided on the day by the charity abseil. As well as Snappy Snaps the other main event sponsors are Parry Sharratt Partnership and Fairview New Homes, developers of the former BT site at Rheims Way, Canterbury. The abseil is being organised by Avalon Adventures.
