A colourful procession of more than 60 floats helped swell the numbers at this year’s Faversham Carnival.

The illuminated parade on Saturday evening was led by the Faversham ATC Band from Jubilee Way through the town to North Lane.

Five primary schools, as well as the town’s Guides and Scouts joined the procession with their own colourful creations to create a party atmosphere.

Carnival club secretary Sylvia Lawrence was thrilled with the turnout.

She said: “It was a fantastic night and lots of people have told me it was one of their most memorable carnivals.

"The standard of entries this year was phenomenal. So many people took part and made it a real community event. It was great to see and I was so thrilled by the number of people who have worked extremely hard in recent months to make it all happen.

"Work of course starts soon to prepare for next year and we will be making an appeal for volunteers and ideas in the new year."

This year’s Carnival Court also took pride of place on the parade with new Miss Faversham Heather Cumberland joined by her princesses Christine Christian and Tilly Manning.

Earlier, French singers entertained the crowds in Preston Street, outside the Alexander Centre while a fun fair at the recreation ground kept young and old entertained.
