A 35-year-old homeless man has appeared in court charged with seriously injuring a man at a house in a Kent city.

Wayne Steer is accused of maliciously wounding 40-year-old Barry Lyons at the property in Sturry Road, Canterbury, on Monday night. The bedsit is owned by the Scrine Foundation homeless charity.

Mr Lyons was treated at the QEQM hospital in Margate for an injury to his neck.

Police sealed off the house on Tuesday as they carried out their investigation. They also questioned a 61-year-old man, who was released without charge.

Canterbury magistrates remanded Steer in custody and sent his case to crown court. The next hearing is scheduled for February 5.
