A grandmother who says she has never won anything in her life has bagged a year’s worth of free shopping.
Now Jennifer Rockhill will be able to browse the aisles of Tesco, where she worked on the checkout and as a section manager at both the Faversham and Whitstable branches for 17 years, without having to fork out a single penny.
Mrs Rockhill, who is retired, lives in Upper Free Down in Herne Bay and is one of only five women in the UK to have won the top prize in the Cancer Research UK Race for Life draw.
The 69-year-old entered the Herne Bay charity event in tribute to her sister Sylvia, who died in December at the age of 75 from liver cancer.
She now plans to save up the £50 she used to spend on groceries every week and put the cash towards something special.
She said: “When they first told me I’d won I thought it was a joke. I left Tesco nine years ago, so it will be funny to go back into the Whitstable and Faversham branches and not have to hand over any money for my shopping.”
