A PLAN by Kent County Cricket Club Cricket to redevelop its St Lawrence ground headquarters at Canterbury has been given the go-ahead by city councillors.

The proposal includes the addition of a hotel, conference centre and new housing.

Many local residents have opposed the project, insisting that their quality of life will bably affected by the developments.

Club officials say that fresh ways of making money would secure the future of county cricket in the city.

The plans will go before an extraordinary general meeting of the cricket club following council approval.
