Fury over £1m sports scheme

ANGRY neighbours are fighting a £1 million development at a sports club at Canterbury.

They claim that part of the scheme to install additional floodlighting at Polo Farm Sports Club, Littlebourne Road, will "light up the sky like Gatwick Airport".

At least 50 people living near the headquarters of Canterbury cricket, hockey and tennis clubs are preparing to object to the city council planning department.

The controversial plan involves the construction of a sports hall and indoor tennis centre, two all-weather tennis courts and floodlit hockey pitch, additional floodlights, new car park and change of use of agricultural land for a cricket pitch.

The Neighbourhood Watch group representing householders in Stodmarsh and Littlebourne Roads is spearheading opposition to the plans, which go before the council on November 14.
