Faversham Town boss Ray Turner is keen to trim his packed pre-season squad ahead of Saturday’s warm-up clash with Herne Bay.

Town played out a goalless draw with Canterbury City at the Shepherd Neame Stadium on Saturday, and Turner says he is keen to reduce his playing squad after using a different 11 in each half.

He added: "We know a bit more about some of the trialists now though and we can start to make decisions about who we want to keep. It is very difficult to work with trialists for a couple of sessions a week, it’s a bit different if you are able to work with them day to day.

"After seeing them a couple of times there are a few who are on the outskirts at the moment and we are looking to form a first team and a reserve team squad and give them their own identity.

"We’ve had something like 30 players at training and I’ve used 22 players in the first two friendlies, changing the entire team at half-time, so I’ll be looking to get those numbers down before Saturday."

"Some of the youngsters have done well and a couple are starting to push towards being included."

Turner also revealed he was keeping an eye on proceedings regarding trialists at clubs higher up the ladder, adding: "You have to be aware of what’s going on elsewhere at this stage of pre-season."

Despite the local rivalry with Herne Bay, Turner said: "It is still early on in pre-season and the result is not the be-all and end-all, but I am looking for performances."
