Faversham Town boss Ray Turner is ready to use the club’s remaining pre-season friendlies to allow his players to gel ahead of the Ryman League Division 1 South kick-off in three weeks' time.

Turner was happy to do most of his squad building early in the close season, and striker Luke Harvey now available, following his switch from Herne Bay, is due to play his first game against Erith & Belvedere on Thursday night

The Town boss (pictured) insisted good things emerged from his new-look side, despite the 4-1 home defeat by a strong Welling side last Saturday.

He said: "It was a great test for us against a good team. I was very pleased to hold them to 0-0 in the first 40 minutes, only for them to score just before half time.

"I was a little bit disappointed though about how we gave it away, and we also missed a penalty, but our team play and pattern were good."

Wayne Wilson saw his spot kick saved by Welling new-boy Sam Mott, who dived to his left to keep out the effort in the second half

Striker Adrian Stone came though 90 minutes against the Blue Square Bet South side, after missing the Canterbury game with a tight calf.

Justin Ascheri has joined Kent League Canterbury City on dual registration.

Meanwhile Faversham’s youngsters get the chance to parade their talents at Salters lane on Saturday as part of an open day to raise funds for the local Carnival Club

The club’s under-13s, 14s and 18s will all get their chance to play on the main pitch ahead of Town’s friendly against local Canterbury and District League side Faversham Harlequin, managed by former Lilywhites reserve team boss John Goodwin.

Turner added: "I know John well, and they are a club who have a big following in the town. It’s a chance to showcase our youth sides, as well as helping out the Carnival, which is quite a big thing in the town, and one of the best in the South East of England.
