A FORMER soldier who was based at a Kent barracks has appeared in court accused of conspiracy to possess explosives for an unlawful purpose.

Andrew Quinn, 25, of Northgate, Glasgow, is now unemployed but did serve with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, 5th Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, which is based at Howe Barracks, Canterbury.

He was remanded in custody by magistrates at Carlisle on Wednesday to next appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday, March 7. He was arrested by Kent Police on Tuesday.

Two soldiers based at Howe Barracks - Col Sgt Garry Graham, 36, from Kilmarnock, and Sgt Kieran Campbell, 27, from the Strathclyde area - appeared before magistrates in Folkestone last Monday on the same charge.

They were both remanded in custody and will next appear at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday.
