Canterbury were edged out of the England Hockey League Women's Championships by Premier Division champions Leicester on Sunday.

After coming through the fourth/fifth places playoff at the University of Birmingham on Saturday, Canterbury Ladies lost 2-1 to Leicester in the semi-finals the following day.

Mel Clewlow gave Canterbury the lead in Birmingham with a 10th-minute penalty corner but the hosts responded to go 2-1 up within 22 minutes.

However Jenny Hall and Jen Wilson turned the game on its head by the 35th minute and two Kathleen Taylor goals made it 5-2 on 51 minutes, and the hosts could only muster a single consolation late-on.

The following day at Leicester Wilson put the city club ahead with a penalty corner strike on 32 minutes, but the hosts levelled on 45 minutes and then snatched the win just before the hour mark, with both goals coming from penalty corners.
