Canterbury Ladies maintained their 100% start to the Investec Women’s Hockey League, Premier Division season when they came from behind to beat Slough 3-1 at Polo Farm on Saturday.

Amy Turnbull struck for the visitors after nine minutes but within five minutes, Canterbury captain Susannah Townsend had levelled.

Just three minutes later, Mel Clewlow put Canterbury ahead from a penalty corner and the points were wrapped up nine minutes into the second half when Eliza Brett added a third.

Canterbury are third in the table, behind the other two clubs who boast perfect records, Clifton and Surbiton.

Canterbury men were brought down to earth after their opening day win as they lost 7-1 away to Beeston in the men’s Premier Division.

The visitors were behind to a David Ames goal inside three minutes but in the 10th minute, Canterbury skipper Michael Farrer equalised from a penalty corner.

Two goals in eight minutes from Simon Egerton gave Beeston a 3-1 half-time lead and three minutes into the second half, he completed his hat-trick.

Martin Jones (40) swiftly made it 5-1 with Egerton (50) claiming his fourth before Craig Boyne (56) completed the scoring. The win moved Beeston top of the table while Canterbury are seventh.
