City (burgundy shirts) were too cautious against Phoenix on Saturday

Manager Dave Fairclough was away at a wedding as City slipped to only their second league loss in two seasons with Saturday’s 1-0 away defeat against Phoenix Sports in the Vandanel Kent County League Premier Division.

He missed seeing his side gift Phoenix the winning goal having paid them too much respect in opting for an ultra cautious 4-5-1 formation for over an hour.

Although Phoenix deserved their victory, they were hardly formidable in attack.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 14th minute after Luke Lockhart and goalkeeper Danny Wrench were involved in a misunderstanding.

City will look to make amends when Sutton Athletic visit Hersden on Saturday (2.45pm)
