Motorists face another day of delays after two burst water mains closed the A251 at Sheldwich.

Water flooded the road in the early hours of Tuesday and left more than 40 homes in the area without water.

The A251 remains closed causing travel chaos with long tailbacks on surrounding roads.

The first water main burst on Tuesday morning along the A251 Ashford Road.

A subsequent burst that afternoon near the junction of Newhouse Lane and Owens Court Farm Road, Selling, caused additional problems for motorists and homeowners.

It is thought the A251 will remain closed until later today.

Simon Robertson, head of distribution at South East Water, said: "We would like to apologise to customers and the road users for any inconvenience the burst caused and thank them for their patience during the repair work."

The water main was fully repaired and supplies back to normal by 7.30pm yesterday evening.
