Beware: Rogue traders on the prowl

Two white men with Irish accents have been cold-calling residents in Columbia Avenue, Whitstable, and the surrounding streets offering to block pave their driveways.

In some cases work is started without the homeowners’ consent, the men insist on cash payment and may demand a higher price if the homeowner asks to pay by cheque.

They are unlikely to provide paperwork but may offer a flyer headed Diamond Drives and Patios.

One is around 5ft 10in, of stocky build, with dark curly hair and a beard, while the other man is slightly shorter, also of stocky build and with dark curly hair but no facial hair.

There are also foreign workmen from mainland Europe, including Latvia.

A number of vehicles may be involved including a W-registered flatbed truck, white cab, blue trailer, Y-registered white LDV flatbed, a 53-registered truck, white cab, flatbed with yellow sides and a white Ford flatbed with an Irish registration plate.
