Stuart Zanone and Alfie May, two of the Southern Counties East League’s most prolific sharp-shooters go head-to-head when Ashford United take on FA Vase quarter-finalists Erith & Belvedere at Homelands on Saturday.

Between them, the pair have hit 51 goals in 39 league games so far this season, ahead of the fourth-versus-second meeting.

Beckenham Town striker Jamie Humphries leads the race for the league’s Golden Boot with 29 goals.

The two strikers are rivals on the pitch – with tallies of 27 (May) and 24 (Zanone) in the league – but mates off it, keeping in regular touch via social media.

Zanone, bidding to create a new personal record of scoring in 11 successive games, said: “Me and Alfie are good friends and Jamie is a top player.

"When I came to the club in September he was on 18, and I didn’t think about actually winning it.

“I just wanted to keep scoring, but am only just behind him now. It’s an individual thing really, to me it’s all about the team.”

United lost 4-0 when the teams met at Welling in October, May scoring twice while Zanone suffered a rare blank.
