Steve Lovell is set to continue his search for additions to his squad as Ashford look to come out the other side of a tough period of six games in three weeks still in the promotion hunt.

Although he has no fresh injury concerns, the Ryman League Division 1 South manager of the month for January nevertheless wants to firm up his options and that desire has only grown in the last week after one target decided against a move to Homelands.

Lovell said: "We talked to the player we made an approach for last week but he decided he was happy staying where he was.

"He was enjoying playing with his mates and didn’t fancy the move. I’m fine with that and we’ll move on to other targets.

"If we can find players that will improve on what we already have at the club then we will try to bring them in.

"We definitely want to make a couple of signings over the next week or so because of the tough period of games we have coming up."

That period starts with Chipstead away on Saturday, as the Nuts and Bolts look to extend their unbeaten run in the league to 14 games – a sequence that goes back to the start of November.

Lovell added: "We want to keep the momentum going but it won’t be easy at Chipstead.

"It’s not a particularly great ground as the pitch is quite small.

"If we go there with the right attitude, though, there is no reason why we can’t carry our form forward into Godalming on Tuesday night

and to the games at Sittingbourne and Whitstable."

Sean Ray will miss the game on Saturday due to a one-game ban, as will Anthony Browne,

who starts a three-game suspension

following his red card at Dulwich Hamlet on January 24.
