Hockey club fall to foot of the table

Ashford Hockey Club's 1sts hit the basement of South League Premier Division 2 on Saturday after losing 2-0 away at Lewes, the side who started the day at the bottom.

Failing to produce a performance of any description, Ashford were outplayed and comfortably beaten by, what before push back at least, were the worst side in the division.

That tag must now belong to Ashford, who face an uphill struggle to keep their place in the upper echelons of the South League.

The home side’s first strike came from a neat short corner, which was deflected in at the far post. The second, deep into the second half, saw a reverse stick shot luckily touched home.

Only a minor miracle will save the team, on a run of seven defeats, from relegation.

Next up, are promotion chasers West Hampstead at Ball Lane on Saturday.
