Woman hurt as truck and car collide on M20

EMERGENCY crews were called to the M20 between Ashford and Hythe after a London-bound 42-tonne articulated lorry was involved in a crash with a car and a bridge parapet.

The incident happened at Smeeth, near Ashford, shortly after 5am on Friday.

The truck went up the embankment and was leaning at a precarious angle when police and fire crews arrived. Several hundred of litres of diesel had leaked from the vehicle.

The road over the motorway from the A20 towards Evegate was closed while structural engineers conducted surveys on the bridge damage.

The woman driver of the car involved was taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the lorry was treated at the scene by ambulance staff.
