Two blazes in woodland behind William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, in an hour

Firefighters were called out to two fires in the same woodland in an hour.

They broke out on land behind the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Town fire fighters first went there at 1.05pm today (Sunday) to a small blaze.

But they were called out again at 1.45pm when 4sq m of trees and branches were alight.

Ashford Fire Station watch manager Andy Harris said: “These are both thought to be deliberate acts.

“It is believed that youths had set fires in the area."
