Laura McGannan and John Fletcher charged after thefts from gyms in Ashford

Two suspected thieves have been charged with multiple offences after cash and bank cards were stolen from gym lockers.

Ashford's Local Policing Team and the Kent Crime Squad investigated the thefts at two gyms in the Ashford district and one in Eastbourne.

Police say John Fletcher, 50, of Salisbury Road, Bexhill, has been charged with six counts of burglary and 10 counts of fraud in relation to the offences.

Laura McGannan, 36, of Main Road, Winchelsea, has been charged with five counts of burglary.

The offences are alleged to have happened between Friday, January 20 and Monday, February 20.

Both defendants appeared before Folkestone Magistrates' Court on Saturday and the case was adjourned to Canterbury Crown Court on a date to be arranged.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who has had items stolen in a similar manner at gyms in the Ashford area should report incidents through the Kent Police website."
