A LORRY driver has been arrested after two men were found in the road on the A20 at Sellindge on Sunday morning.

One was dead, having suffered multiple injuries, and the other was taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital where he has been treated for broken bones. He remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police have yet to trace the next of kin to confirm the men’s identities and nationalities. It is understood the pair are refugees.

A 25-year-old Slovakian man was arrested after a stop check on an articulated goods vehicle on the M20 near Maidstone on Tuesday night. He was being by questioned by police.

The circumstances of the incident, on the Ashford-bound carriageway of the A20 close to the Port Lympne turning, are still not clear, other than the men were involved in a road traffic collision. It happened at about 7.45am.

Officers from Kent Police’s serious crash investigation unit are continuing to look into the incident. They would like to speak to the driver of a gold or silver saloon car, which drove past shortly afterwards.

The driver might be able to provide important information if he witnessed the incident or came across the pair shortly afterwards.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the serious crash investigation unit on 01622 798538.
