Police are in attendance and a diversion is now in place.

Kent County Council's highways team is reporting the issue is due to a burst water main and subsidence.

Drivers are being diverted along an alternative route via, Somerset Road, Forge Lane, West Street, Godinton Road, Elwick Road, Station Road and Wellesley Road.

Kent Police Ashford tweeted: "Due to a large hole in the road (yes, we are looking into it!) Somerset Road is closed from the junction of Canterbury Road to Mace Lane.

"Please find and alternative route, and please don't try to squeeze past the cones, signs, and the shiny police car!"
