Paving slab theft suspects arrested after being pursued by police in Ashford

A suspected thief tried to drive away from police - despite the car being weighed down by a "large number" of stolen paving slabs.

At around 11am on Thursday, patrolling officers in the Penn Hill area of Ashford saw a car they suspected to be overloaded.

The vehicle failed to stop when requested to do so by the officers from the Ashford Community Policing Team.

Two men, aged 40 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

As well as this, the 44-year-old was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop when directed to by an officer, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also arrested in relation to a report of theft from a shop in Lenham on February 8.

Both men were released on bail pending further inquiries.
