Three fire engines arrived just after 3pm, and a cordon was put in place around the landmark site.

Nobody was injured but fire crews are treating the blaze as suspicious.

East Hill was cordoned off before firefighters left just before 4.20pm.

The building, which is set to be turned into flats, was rebuilt after a disastrous fire in May 1974.

Police joined fire crews at the scene and are carrying out inquiries into the blaze.
