Stone thrown from bridge hits car windscreen

Police in Ashford are appealing for witnesses after a large stone was thrown at a car from a motorway bridge.

A 27 year-old woman from Essex was driving a Black Kia Sorento along the A2070 on Saturday at 12.30pm. She had just driven under the bridge at the Park Farm roundabout, when a large stone hit and cracked her windscreen, causing an estimated £50 of damage.

Ch Insp John Frayne said: "This is a very stupid thing to do. This could have quite easily smashed the windscreen and struck the driver with disastrous consequences.

"There have been incidents of this kind in Ashford before and I cannot emphasise strongly enough that on this occasion the driver was lucky. Throwing anything at a moving vehicle is irresponsible and malicious, but to throw something large from a bridge at a moving vehicle could kill someone."

Witnesses are asked to call police on 01622 690690 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
