Compacted ice on untreated side roads was the biggest problem for people trying to get around in Ashford this morning.

But in Folkestone the heavier snowfall of up to six inches and more in places was still creating headaches for motorists and pedestrians.

It was a totally different proposition yesterday when roads were jammed.

This picture (right) shows jams at the entrance to the Channel Tunnel as traffic queued to get in on Wednesday.

Services were suspended temporaily to allow terminal roads to be cleared of snow and ice.
