Couple's road rage terror as man rams car during chase near Tesco

A couple said they feared for their lives after being chased by a terrifying road rage driver who tried to ram their car off the road.

Police are now hunting the maniac driver, who smashed into the couple’s car several times.

Jade Briggs, 22, from South Ashford, was returning home from Crooksfoot Tesco with her partner Adam Potten, also 22, on Monday night when they say they were cut up by a man in a Mercedes.

Mr Potten, an electrician, who was driving his Ford Focus on Bad Munstereifel Road about 9.25pm, sounded his horn – but the couple’s nightmare had only just begun.

Miss Briggs said: “We thought that was the end of it but the next thing we know he appeared out of nowhere, sped up and then did an emergency stop in front of us.

“We barely stopped in time and then he started swearing at us, telling us to get out the car.

“He was swerving towards us, pushing us into the central reservation and tried to ram us off the road. I don’t know how my other half managed to swerve to avoid hitting it.”

She said Mr Potten then drove ahead in an attempt to get away from the driver but he returned again as they approached a roundabout.

She added: “I couldn’t believe it when he appeared again and then he literally started ramming into the passenger side of the car, about three times, trying to drive us off the road.

“It was terrifying. I was curled up in a ball crying and screaming. My boyfriend was trying to keep me calm but I just thought we were going to die.

“The man was in his mid-30s, definitely English, and he was just so angry.

“He just kept ramming into us. We’re so lucky it wasn’t worse because each hit was as hard as the last.

“We came to a stop and Adam quickly tried to get away. The Mercedes went to follow us but instead reversed and vanished.”

Miss Briggs said she phoned the police when the driver first smashed into the couple’s car.

But as they were pulled over on the side of the road speaking to officers, the Mercedes driver sped past them again. She added: “I think he was returning to see if he had ruined our day enough.

“I just want the driver to be caught. What he did was so dangerous and could have been so much worse.

“We did ache a bit the next day and there’s about £500 of damage to the car but the emotional damage is the worst.

“I haven’t been able to sleep and when I do I have nightmares. I keep seeing his angry face.”
