Ashford rapper, and former John Wallis Academy pupil, Jus JayCee films music video for debut single 'Payslips' across town

A rapper from Kingsnorth, who has just released his debut single, filmed the music video across his hometown in a bid to showcase the opportunities Ashford has for artists.

Jordan Curtis, who goes by the name Jus JayCee, filmed scenes for 'Payslips', which was released on Sunday, at the Designer Outlet, Victoria Park and the town centre to name a few.

The 21-year old, who is a former John Wallis Academy pupil, says he chose to film in Ashford as he feels passionately about shining a light on the positive things the town has to offer.

He said: "I live and breathe music and I engineer a bunch of artists that are around Ashford now so I'm seeing all the new talent coming in and I think it’s about time people shone a better light on Ashford.

"We filmed in the town centre near KFC, the arcade scene was at the bowling alley, and I did a couple at my local shop and in Brookfield.

"I think it's really important to know where you’ve come from.

"Where I've worked in studios in London and Birmingham, I’ve seen a lot of artists have blown up, and in those places, it’s just normal, but I love where I am from and this it’s about time someone put Ashford on the map for music."

The artwork for Payslips even features sections of the graffiti wall at Victoria Park, in Jemmett Road where the basketball scene for the video was filmed on March 5.

Jus JayCee has grown up around music and remembers first becoming inspired after visiting his brother's studio when he was just eight years old.

From there his passion grew and in 2016 he was scouted to appear on ITV's The Voice where he auditioned for the coaches but sadly was not chosen to be on their teams.

In December 2019 he also appeared on X-Factor - The Band where he made it to the final 10 boys before being cut from the show.

Speaking of the experience, he said: "Everything happens for a reason and I wasn't meant to get in that band, it was a lesson.

"It has helped me get to where I am now and I've just signed a new management deal with Top Floor LDN.

"This single is the first thing we are putting out together."

Almost all his songs boast the lyrics, “Fresh out of the A”, in homage to his Ashford roots.

He is also keen to help young artists develop their sound and often invites them to record with him at his home.

The video is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
