Ashford's temporary ice rink is finally due to open on Saturday - after a week’s delay.

The rink, located in the car park of the town centre’s Charter House, was meant to open last Friday but that was held up after vital pipework was damaged in transit.

But now the tented rink, which can take 120 skaters, finally opens from noon on Saturday.

Viv Kenny, Ashford Town Centre co-ordinator, said: “The operators experienced some difficulties but they have been working around the clock to try to sort out the problems.

“I sure it will be worth the wait and I hope to see lots of people down there having fun.”

The ice rink is open from 4pm to 10pm weekdays and 10am to 10pm weekends.

Cost is £6.95 per person, including skate hire, for a one-hour session.

From December 17 it will open from 10am to 10pm every day.

The rink is one of the events being co-ordinated by Ashford Town Centre Partnership for the Ashford Winter Festival.
